The standing figure, 6.2 feet tall, represents a Patriot, rifle in hand, ready for combat. The pedestal bears inscriptions engraved on its four faces and a bronze plaque on its front part. Its base is also decorated with a crisscrossed fork and rifle sculpted in low relief. There are a few steps at the base of the monument. The monument is 15’ tall, with its statue, on a 4’2’’ x 4’2’’ square base. According to Dr. Richard, the materials used for its construction are fine grain New Westerley grey granite for the Patriot, Laurentian granite for the cap, polished Laurentian granite for the main body, cut brown Laurentian granite for the second base, and Stanstead granite for the first base, the largest of the two. The monument was created by Émile Brunet, a 19 year old sculptor, and constructed in the J. Brunet workshop. It was inaugurated on July 1st, 1913. On November 22nd, 1987, a plaque was installed on its base; on the plaque is a quote from the order in council issued by the Premier of Quebec, René Lévesque, for the creation of Patriots Day. The Municipality of Saint-Denis owns the land and the monument.
