Memorial Staircase Windows, which were erected in 1983 by Robert Jekyll & Sarah Hall of Toronto at the MacKenzie building at Royal Military College of Canada. Since the mid-70s Robert Jekyll has been closely associated with the development of stained glass in Canada. In 1974 he was founding president of a national association of stained glass artists.
The windows combine abstract non figurative imagery with traditional stained glass leading and colourful, handblown antique glass. Jekyll's abstract designs employ undulating, rhythmic leadlines with saturated colours, imparting a strong sense of movement and dynamism.
The windows depict the McKenzie building and other architectural sites at the Royal Military College of Canada. It also depicts military symbols representing Army, Navy and the Air Force such as an anchor, a dove. and a sword. Finally it depicts peace symbols such as a hand, a dove and the Earth.
