This hall in West Carleton Community Centre is named in honour of Roland Armitage. Roland Armitage enlisted in the Royal Canadian Artillery during the Second World War, at the age of 17. He served on the Western Front of the European Theatre, including fighting in the Liberation of France. He was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, the France and Germany Star, the Defense Medal, the 1939 – 45 Star and the Normandy Medal by the Government of France. The hall was named on August 25, 2011.

Dr. Roland Armitage

A decorated veteran, Roland served in the Royal Canadian Artillery during the Second World War. Following the war, he obtained his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and Veterinary Surgeon Degrees in 1951. Dr. Armitage has cared for thousands of horses and in 1999 was inducted into the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame and Ottawa Sports Hall of Fame. From 1991 to 1994, Dr. Armitage served his community as Mayor of the Township of West Carleton and Member of the Council for the Regional Municipality of Ottawa-Carleton.

Ancien combattant décoré, Roland Armitage a servi dans l’Artillerie royale canadienne pendant la Deuxième Guerre mondial. Après la guerre en 1951, il obtenu des diplômes en médecine vétérinaire et en chirurgie vétérinaire. Le Dr. Armitage a prodigué des soins à des milliers de chevaux et en 1999 il a été intronisé au Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame ainsi qu’au Temple de la renommée des sports d’Ottawa. De 1991 à 1994, le Dr. Armitage a servi sa communauté en tant que maire du Canton de West Carleton et membre du Conseil de la Municipalité régionale d’Ottawa-Carleton.
