These statues are of an older Veteran holding the hand of his granddaughter as they walk toward the Manotick Cenotaph. They were created and installed by British Columbia sculptor Nathan Scott and are based on his Veteran father and his youngest daughter. The project was a collaboration between the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 314 and the Manotick Village and Community Association. The memorial was installed on 1 July and unveiled on 11 November 2017.
The sculpture is a loving tribute to the aging Veteran and all he stands for and the power of family ties. The granddaughter is trying to connect with the grandfather as he gazes at the cenotaph. It provokes memories and conversations about the importance of remembering for generations to come.
