There were two memorials located back to back at Cummington Square. The first memorial was privately erected by Mr. Joseph Carter to honour his son and the other to Chippawa men who lost their lives in the First World War. Originally, the names were carved into the stone. For each of the four men, his regiment, date, and place of death is given. These were the only Chippawa casualties from this war.
Plaques for the Second World War and the Korean War were added to a separate slab at the back of the First World War memorial.
Decades later, a large plaque was erected over the stone with the original carving. The plaque repeats the original wording and adds the names of the Chippawa men who died in the Second World War and the Korean War. The two memorials are now one.
