This memorial, dedicated to the Allied airmen, was erected by the citizens of Oshawa and district. This CF86 Sabre is painted in the colours of the 416 "City of Oshawa" Squadron. The Oshawa airport was one of many used during time of war to train pilots. The Canadair (Montreal) built Mark V Sabre was used primarily by the Royal Canadian Air Force in Europe. The Mark V featured the more powerful Orenda 10 engine and was produced from 1953 to 1958. A total of 370 Mark V's were produced and used by the Royal Canadian Air Force, with 75 being transferred to the German Luftwaffe in 1957.

The famed Golden Hawks aerobatic team began in 1959 and used the Sabre Mark V for their maneuverability and prowess in the air.
