This memorial is dedicated to the Canadian Army participation in the Battle of Hong Kong.

This plaque is one of 39 plaques unveiled in 2009 at Hylands Golf Club. The plaques commemorate former Ottawa-area military installations, a military patron saint, battle honours, ships, units, and squadrons.

In November 1941, Canada sent 1975 troops to help garrison the British colony of Hong Kong. On 8 December 1941 the Japanese invaded Hong Kong. In their first land combat of the war, Canadian troops fought valiantly in a vicious, unequal struggle and their meagre defences were overrun in 17 days.

En novembre 1941, le Canada a envoyé 1975 soldats pour aider la garnison de la colonie britannique de Hong Kong. Le 8 décembre 1941, les Japonais ont envahi Hong Kong. Au cours du premier combat terrestre de cette guerre, les soldats canadiens se sont battus vaillamment dans un combat vicieux, inégal et leurs faibles défenses ont été détruites en 17 jours.
