Flers-Courcelette

The battle of Flers-Courcelette began on 15 September 1916, when an enormous artillery bombardment erupted along a 16-kilometre front. The British Fourth Army and units of th 2nd and 3rd Canadian Divisions then delivered the main attack; Canadians had taken the German front line trenches around the village of Courcelette, which they captured shortly thereafter.
