Notice:

The National Inventory of Canadian Military Memorials is a public, crowd-sourced registry that helps Canadians learn about memorials in their communities. Inclusion in the Inventory does not imply VAC ownership or authority. Responsibility for the care, management, and any changes to a memorial rests with its owning or governing organization.

This school was built in 1954. The school was officially opened in September, 1955 by Andrew Mynarski’s mother. The school was named in honour of one of Winnipeg’s war heroes, Andrew Mynarski. Mr. Mynarski, a pilot in the 419th Squadron, the Royal Canadian Air Force, was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross for extreme gallantry during the Second World War. On Remembrance Day, November 11, 1965, a memorial service was held for Andrew Mynarski, V.C. at the school named in his honour. Surviving members of his air-crew came from all over Canada and one gave a simple but moving account of Andy’s heroic efforts to rescue a team-mate trapped in their flaming bomber.
