Originally constructed in 2012, the first Veteran's Monument was damaged by a windstorm in January 2021, causing the 7-inch thick slab of concrete to break as it broke off of its moorings. Rick Conn, the owner of Grassland Memorials, built both the original and replacement memorial. The new slab of granite is nearly three inches thicker, about 1,800 pounds heavier and has newly designed fasteners.
