This memorial is dedicated to the local war dead of the First and Second World Wars. A Big Valley Cenotaph was originally constructed in 1925 in memory of those who laid down their lives in World War I. The present day population does not remember the precise location. The present day Big Valley Memorial Cenotaph and surrounding Park was built by Leg ion members and commemorated in 1948. This beautiful treed and flowered park is approximately ½ block from the Legion, which is an Original Charter Member. Planters adorn the east and west side of the monument with smaller ones at the base. The Village now maintains the park area and Legion members still voluntarily prune and water the flowers and shrubs as necessary. There is a Dieppe Survivor and subsequent prisoner of war living in Big Valley. In his honour and all other Dieppe Veterans, in conjunction with Alberta Prairie Steam Tours, an annual Dieppe Train Ride and Parade is presented to commemorate them.
