The Obelisk was erected in November 1999 in memory of those who served during First and Second World War, Korean War, and United Nations Peace Keeping missions. The dedication ceremony was held on Remembrance Day 1999 with a service including the Mayor and Council, 18th Air Defence Regiment, Tecumseh Royal Canadian Navy Band, Salvation Army Clergy, Royal Canadian Legion Representatives from various branches, Police Services and Fire Services from the Town of Coaldale as well as area Veterans.
