This certificate lists the names of those from Black Diamond who served in the Canadian military during the Second World War. The Black Diamond Women’s Institute made up the “For King and Country” plaque in 1945-46, commemorating the members of the Black Diamond Community who volunteered for active service with Canada’s Fighting Forces. The Lettering on the plaque was done by Ian McLaren, and the total size of the framed certificate is 41.5 inches tall by 24 inches wide.. This plaque was dedicated to the Town of Black Diamond in 1946. The plaque hung for many years in the Library which was located at the Griffiths Memorial Centre. For the last several years, it has been proudly displayed in the Town of Black Diamond’s Council Chambers. To ensure the living legacy of this wonderful historical plaque, the Town of Black Diamond donated it to the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 78 in 2006.
