The Squamish Nation Cenotaph was dedicated in 1986 by war Veterans. It honours those from the Squamish Nation that served in the First and Second World Wars, Cyprus and Vietnam.

Deacon Rennie Nahanee along with his late cousin Veteran Jimmy Nahanee researched Squamish people and Tsleil Waututh people who served in the Armed Forces. Many Indigenous people were not recognized for their service to the war effort and they felt there wasn’t any recognition at other Remembrance Day ceremonies, so their own monument was erected.
