This memorial to the local residents who served during the Second World War was constructed by Paul Lautard in May 1991. A bronze plaque is affixed to the twenty-eight ton granite boulder and bears the names of those who volunteered in the war. The memorial is located a little more than two kilometres off Highway 33 on Blythe-Rhone Road. The settlement of Rhone was named after the early settlers who came from the Rhone Valley in France. The population of Rhone has remained around 40 people since as far back as the Second World War. There are planted flowers which surround the monument and it is a popular stopover for cyclists passing through.
