Mr. England reflects back on the heroes that protected our country from beginning of First World War to today’s modern day Veterans and hopes with all that has transpired, war will never happen again!
Douglas England
Mr. Doug England was born February 9, 1931 in St. John’s, Newfoundland. He was the oldest son of five children and at the young age of ten, he lost his mother and was cared for by his grandparents. Later, in his teenage years, Mr. England joined the Reserves and at the age of 19 transferred to active force. He joined the Royal Canadian Engineers and volunteered for service in the Korean War. After the war, Mr. England returned home to St. John’s and married. To this day, Mr. England volunteers at the local legions with a strong focus on commemorating the Korean War.

I had a great uncle in the First World War. Those wars were, I can hardly comprehend what they went through because they were moving all the time, advancing, advancing, or retreat, advance mostly but all we were doing was stationed, you know, and protecting ourselves, that’s all. Absolutely amazing, you know, heroes every one of them. Even the ones that came back, even the ones, peacekeepers now, they’re all heroes, they are. They are still protecting.
The way things are going now I don’t, probably just going to be another one but I don’t know, I hope it don’t be. I would like to say to the youngsters or anybody is echo that phrase from the amputees, “Never Again!” War should happen never again!
