The Second World War August 1942
Germany controls most of Europe
The Allies launch a major raid
Against the enemy at Dieppe, France
Nearly 5000 Canadians lead the attack
But German forces are ready
Many men are cut down before landing
Hundreds more die on shore
Less than 10 hours later
The battle is over
With more than 3350 Canadian casualties
Including some 1950 taken prisoner
The hard lessons of Dieppe
Saved countless Allied lives
Two years later
During the D-Day landings
That helped end the war
