The Canadian Armed Forces Operation Lentus mission is one facet within the Canadian Armed Forces in the Americas theme for 2025. This year marks the 10th anniversary Operation Lentus 15-02 in northern Saskatchewan. In 2015 over 13,000 people were evacuated out of North Saskatchewan particularly from the Lac La Ronge Indian Band’s 6 communities north of Prince Albert, as well as surrounding communities in the north. No lives were lost during Op Lentus 15-02, and this ceremony provides an opportunity to thank and recognize the Canadian Armed Forces personnel who were a part of that mission, as well as thanking those who assisted since then with similar missions. The tree planting is a symbol of hope and the renewal that can follow a natural disaster. Following speeches and the tree planting, all attendees are welcome to enjoy light refreshments while touring displays from various community organizations and government entities who play a role in wildfire evacuation, and forest management.
