The Royal Newfoundland Regiment Advisory Council will be holding a ceremony at the National War Memorial in Ottawa to mark the 110th anniversary of the Battles of the Somme and Beaumont-Hamel.
The Battles of the Somme and Beaumont-Hamel were significant military engagements during the First World War. On July 1, 1916, the Newfoundland Regiment suffered devastating losses at Beaumont-Hamel, marking one of the bloodiest days of the war. This day is recognized in Newfoundland and Labrador as Memorial Day, honoring the courage and sacrifice of those who fought.
