In 2026, Juno Productions will be touring their Governor General Award winning play, Jake's Gift, to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Royal Canadian Legion.
Jake's Gift is a one act multi-award winning play. It is a one woman, multi-character solo show written and performed by Julia Mackey and directed by Dirk Van Stralen. Julia and Dirk are BC based theatre artists and have toured Jake's Gift nationally and internationally since 2007 to over 250,000 patrons across Canada, the US, the UK and Normandy, France.
About the Play:
Jake's Gift tells the story of a Canadian WW2 veteran’s reluctant return to Juno Beach for the 60th Anniversary of the D-Day landings. While revisiting the shores of Juno beach, Jake encounters Isabelle, a precocious 10-year-old from the local village. Isabelle’s inquisitive nature and charm challenge the old soldier to confront some long-ignored ghosts – most notably the war-time death of his eldest brother, Chester, a once promising young musician. At its heart, Jake’s Gift is about the legacy of remembrance and makes personal the story behind one soldier’s grave. It is a love letter of thanks to all veterans.
Running Time: 65 minutes with No Intermission
