This memorial was planned and designed entirely by Mr. Rod Crumb and was built in 1980. It features three stelia, with three black marble plaques on the front bearing the names of the local war dead from Canada’s Wars. In relief along the front of the stelia are, on the left, a Blenham Bomber (Second World War Aircraft) on the right, a Corvette Ship, and in the centre, a marching soldier. His plans feature a sword done in relief along the cross on the upper portion of the memorial as well. He and the veterans did the majority of the work, which was the norm for this legion, that everyone would pitch in to help whenever needed. The result was that the costs for the memorial were minimal. The plaques were made separately by Peace Country Memorials in Raycroft. The whole memorial sits on a 10’ by 12’ concrete pad.
Inscription
[left stele/stèle de gauche]
IN FLANDER'S FIELDS THE POPPIES BLOW
BETWEEN THE CROSSES ROW ON ROW.
THAT MARK OUR PLACE, AND IN THE SKY
THE LARKS, STILL BRAVELY SINGING, FLY
SCARCE HEARD AMID THE GUNS BELOW.
WE ARE THE DEAD, SHORT DAYS AGO
WE LIVED, FELT DAWN, SAW SUNSET GLOW,
LOVED AND WERE LOVED, AND NOW WE LIE
IN FLANDER'S FIELDS.

MAY ALL WHO BEHOLD THIS MONUMENT THINK REVERENTLY OF THOSE OF OUR COMRADES WHO BY SEA, BY LAND AND IN THE AIR, LAID DOWN THEIR LIVES FOR THEIR SOVEREIGN AND COUNTRY, THAT WE WHO LIVE MIGHT DO SO IN FREEDOM.
GREATER LOVE HATH NO MAN THAT THIS, THAT A MAN LAY DOWN HIS LIFE FOR HIS FRIENDS.
