The Imperial Order Daughters of the Empire were instrumental in the cenotaph being erected in 1924. At the top, within a small wreath, is written sursum corda which is Latin for lift up your hearts. Canons were later installed on each side of the cenotaph. Royal Canadian Navy Veterans had an anchor installed nearby.
