JERVIS BAY PARK
Established in February 1941,
this park commemorates the heroic action
of the armed merchant cruiser HMS JERVIS BAY
while shepherding a convoy November 5, 1940
on the North Atlantic. Alone JERVIS BAY
fought the pocket battleship ADMIRAL SCHEER
allowing the 37 ship convoy to disperse.
Stoker Alexander Milton "Jimmie" Johnson,
who lost his life when the JERVIS BAY was sunk,
was Owen Sound's first casualty of World War II.
