On September 16, 1920, this monument was installed at West McGillivray, Ontario in memory of veterans of the First and Second World Wars and the Korean War. This monument was moved to the hamlet of Lieury, Ontario in the year 1956. There are sixteen men's names of the surrounding countryside on this memorial. Crowds by the hundreds attended this unveiling, including returned veterans and school children lined up in front of the township hall, then marched four abreast to the erection site. Most of the service men were from the "C" Company 135th Battalion "Pride of Middlesex". Lieut. W.Ulens, M.C., unveiled the cenotaph and Major A.Graham, Chaplain in the Battalion, was the chief speaker. Reeve Joseph Poore acted as chairman and Lieut. Co. Bart. Robson, Commander of the 135th Battalion, was guest speaker. Chaplain Graham's words were "We, the people of McGillivray unveil this monument as a token of sacrifice to the honour and glory of God, for truth, and humanity for the sake of those who have passed on."
