The Memorial to the Fallen Soldier was erected by the Indo-Canadian community, with the contribution of Canadian Museum of Hindu Civilization (CMOHC) and its donors. They presented the monument as an offer of respect and gratitude to the Canadian Armed Forces, and also dedicated it to Canadian soldiers who sacrificed their lives during Canada's peace keeping efforts. The monument was unveiled on October 2, 2010, by CMOHC.
Shaped as a maple leaf, it is exquisitely carved in black granite (Nerro Assuloto) and Imperial red granite, sourced from southern India. Standing tall a towering height of 12 feet, the gleaming monument weights over 15 tons. This monument is designed to capture the glory and heroism of our armed forces. A symbol of peace and patriotism, the memorial is placed next to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi. The CMOHC has also created a Wall of Heros in their museum, listing the names of all soldiers that have died in Afghanistan. The priests in the attached temple offer prayers for each of the names at sunrise and sunset daily.
