This island is named in honour and memory of Albert Edward Roden, one of our honoured dead of World War II. Service No. R-186781. Employed with Patricia Transportation Co. in winter and summer freighting. Died in the service and defence of his country while with the Royal Canadian Air Force over Ludwigshafen, Germany, August 21, 1942.

The cairn was erected by the volunteers of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 139 and the Members of the Lac Seul Native Band Reserve No. 28.
