The War Memorial Library at 269 Queen Street was erected as a memorial to those from the area who served in the First World War and officially opened on May 24, 1935. Lieutenant Governor Herbert A. Bruce and Major-General James MacBrien, both former residents of Scugog Township, presided over the ceremonies. A Book of Remembrance was placed in the library as a memorial to the fallen soldiers of the Great War.
In need of expansion, the library building committee located a site at 231 Water Street and the Scugog Memorial Public Library opened to the public on May 29, 1982. The War Memorial Library on Queen Street was renovated and converted into office space in 2019.
