Baptized Joseph Zotique Rosario Francoeur. Son of Zotique Francoeur and Augustina Cousineau, of Montréal and St-Martin-de-Laval, Île-Jésus, Québec.
His mother deceased in 1897, his father then remarried to Agnès Cantin in 1898 and he died in 1905.
Enlisted in the 69th Reserve Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force, he sailed for Great Britain on April 17, 1916, and landed in Liverpool, England, on the 27th. Transferred to the 22nd Battalion on July 28, 1916, he set foot in France on the 29th. Loaned to the 2nd Canadian Entrenchment Battalion from August 5 to 18, he rejoined his new unit on the 19th, which was on the front lines at Courcelette, Pas-de-Calais. He was first reported missing on October 4, 1916, then presumed killed in action, and finally declared killed in action at Courcelette during the capture of the Regina trench.
He stated being born in St-Martin-de-Laval when he enlisted.

COURCELETTE BRITISH CEMETERY Somme, France
Courcelette is a village some 10 kilometres north-east of the town of Albert, just off the D929 road to Bapaume. The Courcelette British Cemetery is approximately 1 kilometre west of the village on the south side of a track, suitable for cars, from the secondary road from Courcelette to Pozieres. The route is signposted in the village.
