On June 2, 1918, a tablet was unveiled honouring Parkdale Presbyterian Church parishioners who gave their lives in the First World War. The unique service opened with a baptism, symbolizing the rising of a new generation. Many of the bereaved parents had brought their hero sons to the same altar in childhood. Reverend A. Logan Geggie read the names of the fallen, one of whom was his own son. Reverend Geggie left for overseas later that day and served at the British YMCA where half of his time was devoted to Canadian soldiers.
