The Botwood Cenotaph was constructed in 1921 in memory of those who paid the supreme sacrifice in the First World War. Later, tributes to veterans of the Second World War were added.

Excerpt taken from the Veteran Magazine Sept. 1922: THE MONUMENT, erected in memory of the Boys of Botwood and District, who gave their lives for their Country, was unveiled on Tuesday, 1st July, 1921, by Mrs. Thos. Antle, President of Botwood Women's Patriotic Association. Appropriate addresses were delivered by Mr. J.W. Aitken, J.P., and Rev. II. G. Coppin, Methodist Minister, after which "The Last Post" was sounded by ex-Sergt. W. Jewer, M.M., and firing party, composed of returned soldiers under the command of Corporal Heath, fired three volleys over the Monument. The number of people present at the unveiling ceremony was the largest at any function in the history of Botwood. The Monument, which was purchased from D. Beveridge & Son, Perth, Scotland, is a gray granite obelisk, about 12 feet high, and is erected on ground donated to the Local Committee by Mr. H.J. Crowe.

In their beginnings, the Great War Veterans Association held remembrance ceremonies at temporary memorials erected for each service. A permanent site for remembrance was needed and $8000 was raised by the people of Grand Falls with assistance of the Anglo-Newfoundland Development Company. A memorial was designed to replicate the cenotaph in Whitehall, London, and honour those who lost their lives in the First World War.

The unveiling and dedication of the cenotaph was held on Sunday, July 23, 1922, with Governor Harris performing the dedication. The cenotaph was located on the edge of town on Station Road, which was later Lincoln Road, in the area known as Memorial Grounds. The Grand Falls Academy school was built directly behind the cenotaph in 1935.

The cenotaph was later updated to include soldiers who lost their lives in the Second World War and the stone engravings were replaced with brass plaques in 1948. In 1966, the names of those who lost their lives in the Korean War were added.

The Memorial Grounds are now a Memorial Park and the center for all memorial activities in the town including Armistice Day and the wreath laying on July 1st.

This memorial was erected by Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 21 in memory of the local men and women who served during the First and Second World Wars and the Korean War. The first War Memorial in Twillingate was the original Notre Dame Bay Memorial Hospital. Movement for construction of the hospital began at a public meeting held at the Court House in Twillingate in 1918 as the First World War was coming to an end. Many men from Notre Dame Bay had lost their lives in the war and, besides fulfilling the great need for medical facilities; the hospital would also serve as a memorial to those gallant young men. Construction got under way in June, 1921, on the south side of Twillingate Harbour and the hospital was officially opened by Governor W.L Allardyce on September 20, 1924. Over the next 52 years, the hospital served thousands of people, not only from the immediate area, but also from other areas of Newfoundland. In 1976, it was replaced by an ultra-modern facility which is also known as the Notre Dame Bay Memorial Hospital. After the old hospital was dismantled in 1981, Twillingate Branch 21 of the Royal Canadian Legion spearheaded a drive to have a War Memorial erected on the same site. This drive received wide-spread community support, the new memorial became a reality, and was unveiled on Memorial Day, July 1, 1985, by the late Comrade Edgar Dove, a veteran of the First World War and Comrade Alfred Jenkins, a veteran of the Second World War. Branch 21 has recently been instrumental in having the cornerstone from the old hospital set up on the new War Memorial site adjacent to the Memorial, and in having a plaque from the old hospital, placed in one of the wards at the new hospital which designated ward 9 as the Veteran's ward. Hung in the waiting room of the old hospital, was a framed list of names. It now hangs in the lobby of the new hospital, and contains 203 names.

Dedicated to the members of the 107th Battery, Royal Canadian Artillery, who served at Hann's Point during the Second World War, this memorial was erected by the Royal Canadian Legion. The Hann's Point Memorial was constructed in June 1996. Hann's Point was the location of a look-out that soldiers used who were stationed in Lewisporte during the Second World War. It served to protect Lewisporte and the oil storage tanks that serviced the military operating out of Gander. On June 25, 1942, an accidental explosion at the site killed five soldiers and injured 35 more.
