The Millbrook First Nation cenotaph was erected in honour of Mi’kmaq Veterans who served in the First World War, Second World War, Korean War, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan and Peacekeeping duties in either Canadian or United States Forces. It was unveiled in November 1999.

The Wallace War Memorial was erected in 1959, in memory of all those who have served their country and those who gave the supreme sacrifice in the First and Second World Wars. The Memorial was designed by Comrade Charles McCoull. The Monument is of Wallace sandstone with panels of granite. The cutting and erecting of the stone were done by local contractors, Gordon Dewar and Roy Flynn. Each year on the eve of June 30th, Canada Day events begin at the Cenotaph with the Nations Prayer, Wreath laying and Parade to the Community Centre. Involved are, Legion Branches from Pugwash, Tatamagouche and Wallace; RCMP members; Wallace Fire Department; Boy Scouts and Girl Guides associations. This is followed by entertainment, refreshments and fire works. There is an annual Remembrance Day Service held at the Monument on the 11th hour. The Service is attended by, Seaside Branch Royal Canadian Legion No. 104 , RCMP, Fire Departments, Boy Scouts and Girl Guides, also a large number of local citizens.

The Truro Cenotaph was unveiled by His Honor Lieutenant Governor Tory on September 26, 1926, to honour the soldiers who fought in the First World War. At the time, the memorial was called Memorial to the Fallen Soldiers. Thousands of citizens from Truro and Colchester County attended the parade and ceremony. Stationed at the four corners of the base of the cenotaph were soldiers representing four different branches of service. Sergeant Intcliff, Infantry; Petty Officer Lundy, Navy; Private Henderson, Highlanders; and Private. Davidson, Cavalry. At a cost of $10,000, the memorial has since been taken care of by the Legion and towns people. 

The cenotaph consists of a large square center stele with black granite plaques on the four sides. Each corner of the stele has an Ionic column supporting an overhanging roof. The cenotaph stands on a broad one foot tall granite base, which is atop a broader, stone base. On top of the cenotaph is a statue of a soldier in full battle gear from the First World War with his hands crossed, resting on the butt end of his rifle.

In the 1970's the names of the men who died in the Second World War and Korean War were added to the cenotaph. Names from Afghanistan were added later.

Erected by the citizens of Springhill after the First World War in honour of the local war dead, the beautiful Soldiers' Monument was officially unveiled on August 4, 1929. Mrs Annie Goldrich, who lost three sons in the war, unveiled the monument. The guard stood at the present and Bugler Young sounded the "Last Post".

The committee appointed to the Soldiers' Monument consisted of: Joseph Potter, Bruce Hyatt, Harry Moore, Oscar Goldrich, Harry Slater, Roach McKay, John Hannah, C.E. MacKenzie and William Cliffee. Giving much assistance and advice to this committee was Mr. R.B. Murray. The total cost for the monument was $4,953.69.

The total weight of the monument is 59 tons. Thirty-five tons of cement was put into the foundation, the first two stones weigh four tons, the main stone weighs eight tons and the next one three and one-half tons. The wings weigh three tons each and the statue about two and a half tons. Construction was handled by J.A. Tingley and Company of Amherst. The statue was made in Italy of Carrara marble.

Emanuel Hahn's design represents the sorrows caused by war. The soldier atop the cenotaph looks down in sadness at the ground below him, as if he might find there, his fallen comrades, if not for the tragedy of war.

The statue depicts a young, grieving Canadian soldier in First World War army uniform. He is standing at a battlefield grave – a simple cross with poppies and a broken chain at the base and the flag draped behind it – the final resting place of a comrade killed in action. His left hand rests on the cross, while his right hand holds a reversed rifle. His helmet is slung over his shoulder.

The Cenotaph was expanded after the Second World War to include a commemoration of the local war dead of that conflict and again after the Korean War. In 2013, the John Hopkins Committee raised money to restore the cenotaph. A new cement base was added and the wings were sent to the Annapolis Valley to be redone. At this time one name was added on the inscription - Private Harold C. Harrison.

Emanuel Hahn moved to Toronto at the age of seven with his family of artists and musicians from Germany, in 1888. He studied commercial design and model-making at Toronto Technical School and Ontario College of Art and Industrial Design. At 25 years old Hahn began a nearly lifelong contract with Thomson Monument Company of Toronto. Two years later, he also started work as a studio assistant to sculptor Walter Seymour Allward. Part of his duties included assisting on Allward’s significant works such as the South African War Memorial in Toronto.

In 1912 Hahn began an association with the Thomson Monument Company of Toronto. It was there, along with several assistants, he made the many war memorials that are found across Canada: Fernie, British Columbia; Killarney and Russell, Manitoba; Alvinston, Bolton, Cornwall, Hanover, Lindsay,  Malvern, Milton, Petrolia and Port Dalhousie, Ontario; Gaspe, Quebec; Moncton, New Brunswick; Springhill and Westville Nova Scotia; Summerside, Prince Edward Island.

Hahn is probably most famous as the designer of the Bluenose on the back of the Canadian dime and the Caribou on the back of the Canadian quarter. He was a victim of anti-German sentiment in the years following the Great War, when his design for the Winnipeg Cenotaph was rejected in 1925.

The Soldiers' Memorial was erected by residents and ex-residents of Pugwash and Poling district No. 7 to the memory of the brave boys who fell in the Great War.

At the end of the Victory Loan Campaign in 1919, the committee in charge of district No. 7 decided to use the fund for a memorial to those from the area who died in the Great War. In June 1919 a public meeting was held in the Presbyterian Church which was addressed by Colonel C.E. Bent and Colonel J.L. Ralston. It was unanimously decided to adopt the Victory Loan Committee's suggestion and that the committee be responsible for erecting the monument.

Contracts were awarded to David Sharp of the Colonial Granite Works at New Glasgow for the pedestal and to S.F. McCann & Sons Co. of Boston for the bronze statue. R.L. McDonald furnished the stones for the pipe posts on the fence free of charge. The memorial was unveiled by Private J.V. Clarke on July 1, 1922.

Additions were made to honour those who lost their lives in the Second World War.
