Erected by Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 213, this memorial is dedicated to the local war dead of the First and Second World Wars and the Korean War. Prior to 1974 Central Butte did not have a monument and the Legion would lay wreaths at the Cross at the Veterans plot in Central Butte Cemetery. In 1974 a stone monument was built and services of Remembrance have since been held there. The monument is located in the centre of downtown, at the corner of Main and 2nd Avenue.

TO HONOR
THOSE
WHO SERVED
Originally constructed in 2012, the first Veteran's Monument was damaged by a windstorm in January 2021, causing the 7-inch thick slab of concrete to break as it broke off of its moorings. Rick Conn, the owner of Grassland Memorials, built both the original and replacement memorial. The new slab of granite is nearly three inches thicker, about 1,800 pounds heavier and has newly designed fasteners.

The Lieutenant Hampden Zane Churchill Plaque was erected was erected by the Saskatchewan Heritage Foundation, Government of Saskatchewan in 2019.
Hampden Zane Churchill Cockburn was born in Toronto, Ontario on 19 November 1867. After studying at Upper Canada College and the University of Toronto, he became a barrister. During the South African War, Cockburn served in South Africa with the Royal Canadian Dragoons.
On 7 November 1900, at Liliefontein, near the Komati River, a large force of Boer commandos sought to encircle a retreating British column whose rearguard comprised two troops of Royal Canadian Dragoons and two 12-pounder guns of “D” Battery, Royal Canadian Field Artillery.
At one point, the remnant of Lieutenant Cockburn’s troop of Dragoons fought desperately against 200 Boers who were intent on capturing “D” Battery’s two guns. His handful of men successfully held off the Boers, thus allowing the guns to escape, but all became casualties, including Cockburn who was slightly wounded. For his part in saving the guns, Lieutenant Cockburn received the Victoria Cross, one of three awarded for separate incidents in this action.
Cockburn died in Grayburn, Saskatchewan on 12 July 1913.

This memorial stands first to honour Swift Current's own 209th Battalion Infantry, Canadian Expeditionary Force of the First World War. The cenotaph was built in 1927 and dedicated on 11 November 1927, by Lieutenant Governor H.W. Newlands. It was built for around $10,000 with the funds raised from the city of Swift Current and those living in the surrounding area.
It has also been dedicated to all Veterans of the First and Second World Wars, and Korean War. The Korean War bronze plaque was dedicated during "Canada Remembers" in May 1995.
On 14 May 2022, Royal Canadian Legion Branch 56 Swift Current, along with the City of Swift Current and the Comrades Forever held a ceremony in which two new plaques were added to the cenotaph. One plaque is dedicated to those who served and gave their lives during peacekeeping operations 1954 - present and the second plaque is dedicated to those who served and gave their lives during Canada's mission in Afghanistan.
