Cullum Place is named for John Arthur Cullum, who in 1914 joined the 18th Battalion as a medical officer. On 9 March 1916 the French Government awarded him the Croix du Guerre for seeking out the wounded in no man's land and treating them under fire. He died of wounds on 9 November 1916, shortly after he received an appointment as a combatant officer.
