Memorial Scroll

Context

The Memorial Scroll is presented by His Majesty’s Canadian Government to commemorate the sacrifice of military personnel who lay down their lives for their country.

Eligibility and Criteria

To be eligible, a CF member must have served in the Regular Force, Primary Reserve, Cadet Instructor Cadre or Canadian Rangers after 6 October 2001.

The Memorial Scroll is issued to commemorate the death of a member of the Canadian Forces as a result of an injury or disease related to military service and which has occurred on or after 7 October 2001.

Memorial Cross

Context

The Memorial Cross is granted by His Majesty’s Canadian Government as a memento of personal loss and sacrifice in respect of military personnel who lay down their lives for their country.

Eligibility and Criteria

The Directorate of Honours and Recognition (DH&R) of the Department of National Defence (DND) is responsible for the administration of the Memorial Cross for:

Sacrifice Medal (SM)

Context

The Sacrifice Medal was created in the context of increased casualties in overseas operations to fulfill the desire of Canadians and the Government to provide formal recognition, through the award of an official medal emanating from the Crown, to those who die as a result of military service or are wounded by hostile action. This honour replaces the Wound Stripe.

Dag Hammarskjöld Medal

Context

The Dag Hammarskjöld Medal is presented by the United Nations to the families of those who gave their lives in the service of the United Nations.

Eligibility and Criteria

Awarded posthumously to all personnel of military, police or civilian components of United Nations peacekeeping operations who have lost their lives during service with such operations.

Memorial Ribbon

Context

The Memorial Ribbon is presented by His Majesty’s Canadian Government as a memento of personal loss and sacrifice in respect of military personnel who lay down their lives for their country.

Eligibility and Criteria

The Memorial Ribbon is issued to commemorate the death of a CF member.

The deceased CF member must have served in the Regular Force, Primary Reserve, Cadet Organizations Administration and Training Service (COATS) or Canadian Rangers on or after 1 October 1947;

Context

The Memorial Bar is presented by His Majesty’s Canadian Government to commemorate the sacrifice of military personnel who lay down their lives for their country.

Eligibility and Criteria

To be eligible, a CF member must have served in the Regular Force, Primary Reserve, Cadet Instructor Cadre or Canadian Rangers after 6 October 2001.
