- Lester B. Pearson is awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. It recognized his efforts as a diplomat to promote international understanding and create a "firm structure of peace."
4 November 1956 – 70th anniversary
- The United Nations accepts Lester B. Pearson’s proposal to create a peacekeeping force in response to the Suez Crisis.
7 November 1956
- Canadian troops begin their first large-scale United Nations peacekeeping mission during the Suez Crisis in Egypt
