Son of William Seymour Brewer and Josephine Thomas Brewer, of New York, U.S.A. Volunteered twice, first with Canadian Highlanders, wounded and discharged; returned to America when convalescent; spoke and wrote on behalf of the Allies; later re-enlisted and was killed in action.

Vis-en-Artois and Haucourt are villages on the straight main road from Arras to Cambrai about 10 kilometres south-east of Arras. The Memorial stands in the grounds of Vis-en-Artois British Cemetery, which is west of Haucourt on the north side of the main road. The VIS-EN-ARTOIS MEMORIAL bears the names of over 9,000 men who have no known grave.
