Son of John W. and Diana Skeard of Port aux Basques, Newfoundland. His father lost his life on 14 October 1942 near Port aux Basques, Newfoundland as a result of enemy submarine action. Pte Skeard was the brother of Thomas Skeard who died in hospital after serving on a British Merchant Navy vessel from his injuries. Pte Skeard is also commemorated on page 564 of the Second World War Book of Remembrance.
