Son of Russell Trenholm and Elizabeth Sophia Stright from Murray Corner, Westmorland, New Brunswick. Husband of Amy Julia Hicks from Midgic Station, Westmorland.


The logbook of U-552 indicates that one of the three torpedoes hit the stern of the Nerissa at 0027 hours on 1 May 1941 and sinks south-east of Rockall, position 55°57'N/10°08'W. There were 91 survivors disembarked in Londonderry, Northern Ireland, by HMS Kingcup (K33) of the Royal Navy after being rescued by HMS Veteran (D72). Trenholm died of wounds sustained during the torpedoing.
