Location:

The YPRES RESERVOIR CEMETERY is located to the North West of the town. From the station turn left and drive along M.Fochlaan to the roundabout, turn right and go to the next roundabout. Here turn left into M.Haiglaan along for 300 meters and turn right into M.Plumerlaan. The YPRES RESERVOIR CEMETERY is on the right hand side, approx 200 meters along.

  • Wartime diary– Private Nelson Fortier was the first man of the 13th Canadian Infantry Battalion to be killed in action after the move to Belgium for the 3rd Battle of Ypres (Passchendaele) in October 1917. Matching his date of death to the war diary tells us that he was the man that was killed by a bomb dropped from an enemy aeroplane while doing road work near Spree Farm (Trench Map 28.c.18.c), just south of St. Julien.
