This German 77mm field artillery gun was captured during the Battle of Arras by the 25th Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Forces. Along with New Brunswick’s 26th Battalion, the 25th Battalion from Nova Scotia were part of the 5th Infantry Brigade, 2nd Canadian Division. On August 27, 1918, the brigade captured the town of Cherisy and stormed across the River Sensee. During this action, the artillery piece was captured at Moon Quarry. It has been on display in several locations in Grand Falls since its arrival in 1929.
