In the sanctuary at St. Edmund’s Church, a sedilia was unveiled in memory of Private William Hesmonhalgh Blenkhorn who lost his life in the First World War. The sedilia was dedicated to the church by his family.

William was born on March 14, 1897, in East Lancaster, England to Matthias and Louisa Blenkhorn and the family moved to Toronto, Ontario, when he was young. He worked as a machinist when he enlisted with the Canadian Expeditionary Force on March 20, 1915. William served in the 25th Battalion and was killed on June 12, 1918, near Arras when he was struck by shrapnel.
