This monument is dedicated to Lieutenant Colonel C.N. Mitchell, VC, MC, RCE. It was erected by the Canadian Military Engineers on 12 October 1979, to commemorate the naming of the PMQ area, in honour of LCol Mitchell. The monument was originally placed at the intersection of Keith Wilson Road and The Boulevard (now called Sappers’ Way), but later moved to the intersection of Keith Wilson Road and Vedder Road.

Coulson Norman Mitchell is the only Canadian Engineer to have been awarded the Victoria Cross.

This memorial cairn was dedicated on 12 October 1979, in honour of LCol C.N. Mitchell, VC, MC, RCE. To commemorate his contribution to Canada and the World as a gallant soldier during two World Wars and for his contribution to this base from April 1944 to September 1948.
