The Castleon Cenotaph was unveiled on August 11, 1920, and dedicated to the men from the area who fought and to those who died in the First World War.

The cenotaph consists of a granite stele mounted on a two-step concrete base that tapers upward with carvings on the front and back. In front, four round concrete balls are engraved with one of four significant battle sites of the First World War: Courcellette, Mons, Ypres and Vimy Ridge.

The Castleton Woman’s Institute organized plays on fair nights, under the direction of Miss E.G. Pomeroy. They organized teas and many other community events to raise funds for the memorial.

In the Spring of 2015, the wrought iron fence surrounding the cenotaph was completed.
