This memorial is dedicated to Sgt David L. Pitcher. He was killed in the line of duty at Elmendorf AFB Alaska on September 22, 1995, at 0747 hours when a Boeing E-3B Sentry AWACS from the 962nd Airborne Air Control Squadron crashed shortly after take-off for a routine surveillance training sortie. Sgt Pitcher was employed as a Battle Director Technician on the E-3B AWACS, Mission Call-Sign YUKLA 27.

Sgt David L. Pritcher is also commemorated on the Yukla 27 Monument.
