This memorial, erected on top of the Montagne Noire, honours the memory of the 24 members of the Royal Canadian Air Force who died when the bomber and antisubmarine aircraft Liberator crashed on this site during a routine flight between Gander, Newfoundland, and Dorval, Quebec, in October 1943.
The names of the members who perished are also inscribed on the St. Donat Memorial erected in the Saint-Donat cemetery to honour the victims of the tragedy.
