Notice:

The National Inventory of Canadian Military Memorials is a public, crowd-sourced registry that helps Canadians learn about memorials in their communities. Inclusion in the Inventory does not imply VAC ownership or authority. Responsibility for the care, management, and any changes to a memorial rests with its owning or governing organization.

This tree was dedicated to Officer Cadet K.R. Gawne, one of those who died in a demolitions training accident at Slesse Range on June 20, 1988. The class of 1990 planted the willow tree at the Royal Military College of Canada, behind the Currie Building, in memory of Officer Cadet Gawne.

In 1989, the Cadet Kelly Gawne memorial cup was instituted for RMC female athlete of the year.

Officer Cadet Gawne is also commemorated on the CFB Chilliwack Slesse Range Plaque.
