GULF AND KUWAIT
LE GOLFE ET
LE KOWEÏT

This battle honour was awarded to HMC Ships and Air Squadrons that participated in OPERATION FRICTION in the Persian Gulf in 1991. Among many duties, Canadian warships screened the coalition logistic force, provided escort to the northern gulf and enforced the UN trade embargo. Two Air Squadrons were force multipliers, extending the sensory capabilities of HMC Ships and refueling coalition aircraft; and two squadrons of CF-18s provided combat air patrols to HMC Ships and later in the ground attack role.
