Bertha Larson - The War Years

This is submitted by Elaine Stoesz, an Area Counsellor in Saskatoon. It is a story from Bertha Larson of Shellbrook, Saskatchewan.

"My husband, Martin Larson, joined the Canadian Army as a Private on February 11, 1943, and was posted to Regina then Moosejaw and Calgary.

On leave from Calgary, Martin and I were married on July 1, 1943. After the wedding, Martin left almost immediately for England until he returned the following March, 1944, and he was posted to Ottawa.

During the war years, I lived in Shellbrook and had a child Beverly, who died shortly after birth.

Following this, I spent the war years doing day work locally until Martin's discharge on February 21, 1945."
