A Totally Different Set of Values

Transcript
I read a lot of history and I have studied history and in some way yes, I expected it but to see it real it’s… like somebody can describe how a chocolate cake tastes like but until you tasted it, it’s different. Experience over there, the best way, you’re here, you are walking to a bank and there’s a bank robber, somebody is hoisting a bank robber and the bank robber panics and ends up shooting an innocent bystander. You feel frustrated. But there it’s amplified a thousand times when you are seeing one side using kids of another ethnic group as a shield or a pawn and you are just in disbelief to see how far human beings can go to serve an end. How could they or how dare they do this. And again, two different set of values. Our Canadian values and the values of being there on tour that was a hard pill to swallow to see the different values.
Description

When comes to human life, Mr. Allaire expresses his disbelief in how strong cultural values control how people treat one another.

Denis Allaire

Mr. Denis Allaire was born December 25, 1962 in Timmons, Ontario. As a young man, Mr. Allaire recalls his decision to join the military as a selfish opportunity for financial and security reasons and enlisted on a bet. He trained as a medic receiving trades training in Cornwallis, Ontario, OJT in Trenton, Ontario and then six month training at Borden, Ontario Medical School. Joining the 5 Field Ambulance Division as an army medic, Mr. Allaire deployed overseas, his first deployment being in 1993 to Croatia, then Rwanda followed by two tours to Bosnia. After 24 years of military service, he discharged from the military. Mr. Allaire retires having a great sense of pride for his contribution and is thankful that he made that decision in life to join the Canadian Forces.
