Battle of the Sharnhorst (Part 2 of 3)

Transcript
And meantime, we were coming up to intercept her between where this was going on and the coast of Norway, and that's what happened. The, the Belfast came across, came across them again and they had a, I guess a few fires. We, we were coming up as fast as we could, had been for a day or so, and so we knew what was going on. And then about, shortly before 5:00, the Duke of York ahead of us and we were astern, and we had, I guess we must have left the destroyers astern by that time, the, came up and started firing at the, at the Sharnhorst, the distance, she had 14- inch guns, Sharnhorst has 11 so that she probably had a little bit more distance on them. Anyway they're firing and, and closing a bit, but Sharnhorst was fast. But the Norfolk, I think, had done some damage, or somebody had put a, slowed down the Sharnhorst at one point because we thought that she was gonna get away. We were too far away, we didn't, we had 6-inch guns and couldn't reach her, of course. But, and I was in the aircraft plot, we, it was... it was rough enough that it was pretty difficult to stand, you know, it was, and of course it was dark and there was no aircraft activity, in fact the Germans had nothing of it that's, so we had nothing to do.
